In light of recent tragic events in our community, it's important to know that there is help for those who might need it. Here are some very simple ways that you can help yourself, and others who may be affected in some way.

To the loved ones of those who passed:
  • Surround yourself with loved ones

  • Talk about your late loved one if you feel comfortable

  • Honor your feelings - let yourself cry, take time to acknowledge how you feel, and write about it

  • Reach out for support from a professional

To the friends of loved ones:
  • Take care of yourself - this is not only vital for your own wellbeing but also for those around you so they can receive your best attention

  • Focus on listening, be present

  • Set boundaries if it becomes too much

How parents can help their children who are suffering with grief:
  • Listen without judgment

  • Create a safe environment for open conversation about the loved one who was lost

  • Maintain healthy routines such as activities or schedules, but allow flexibility

  • Reassure them that feelings take time to pass but they are always temporary

If you or a loved one are struggling with thoughts of suicide or substance use please reach out to a mental health practice, seek help, and talk to a parent or trusted adult. Or, talk to someone in the United States today:
  • Call 9-8-8 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

  • If you are deaf or hard of hearing, call 711 then 988
